Beware, it rained a lot, and I think it does that there. We had one dry afternoon that we could go biking. The rest of the time (out of 4 days) it was pouring.
We met up with our friends Emily and Harry that were up on vacation there at the same time. It was fun to spend time with them. Maine is highly recommended.

Funny story: Bar Island, is a small island right off of the town Bar Harbor. We had heard, that at low tide, you can cross the natural bridge (about 1/4 mile long) to the island. Well, while we were eating at a restaraunt on the harbor with Emily and Harry, we noticed the land bridge clearing, and it was not raining anymore, for the first time that day. We finished our meal and headed over there to cross to the island for a quick hike. None of us had read much about it, but we looked quickly at a tide chart that said high tide was about 6 hours away. Little did we know, you don't have any more than about an hour on both sides of the lowest tide when the bridge is crossable. We crossed (a bridge about 50 yards wide of dry ground), spent about 30 minutes on the island hiking the trails. We got higher on the island and notice the fog had come in. We realized that meant the tide might be in too, and we couldn't see the harbor anymore. We frantically ran down the path and much to our dismay, found water, not a bridge. In just a few minutes the tide had almost completely covered the land bridge. We must have crossed right before the tide came in. We laughed at ourselves and wondered what we should do. It took us only a few seconds to see how fast the tide was rising and to start running across to the mainland. The water was initially only ankle deep, but was quickly up to our knees by the other side. I'm glad we didn't take any longer or we would have been swimming across! Maybe we should read the park map more carefully next time...
