March-April 2009

Welcome to Cousin Kailey! Sarah and Jake had their 4th child- Kailey Mae on March 9th! We are so excited that she is a girl cousin that can be best friends with our baby when she comes in about 1 month. (Photo courtesy of Sarah.)

Happy Pi Day! (March 14th- get it 3.14159265...)I guess the math nerd in me comes out in me. It was a little disappointing that it was over the weekend so I didn't do anything in my math class, but Luke and I had a lovely Chicken Pot Pie for dinner. Yum. We also went to the library and read some fun Pi books.

We took these pictures when I was about 38 weeks along. Luke thought it was funny that he could see my belly as I came down the stairs before the rest of me. I am looking very pregnant now. I still feel great. People ask me how many months I had left and were shocked when I told them I was in my last month of pregnancy. I think it'll be a shock when I go into labor and stop feeling great.

Something that's been really hard for me to realize as I've been expecting this baby is I have to leave work. For my whole life I've planned on being at home with my babies, but now that it's down to that, it's a really hard decision for me. I feel responsible for my students that I work with at work and I really care about them, and I do not feel a responsibility for my child I haven't met yet. I expect when I meet her to feel my sense of responsibility shift to my daughter.
I think I have the best job. I have loved teaching math at Watertown High. I feel like it was a great fit for me. I had excellent colleagues in the math department, Chuck and Karen.

The best department head, Dan and a great co-teacher, Lina. I am so sad I am not finishing up the school year with these fine folks.

I'll miss the students in my math class. They were so great to work with. I loved my small class that I could get to know all of them and work with them. I wish them the best through the end of the year. I've really enjoyed boosting up the curriculum of this class and challenging them. They have all really shown me how smart and able they are and how much they can do. Here I have Abdul, Alex, Vivien, Reena, Ryon, Sabrina, Fabie,

Lohann,

Elvyn,
and Shannon. I'll miss you and good luck!

The rest of my time at school I spend in the math lab with students who drop by for help with whatever math they're having trouble with- from prealgebra to calculus. I took pictures with many of my regular math lab friends, and there are many more I didn't get pictures with. I know they'll finish up their year well, and my seniors will do great in college. I'll miss them. I feel really sad to leave. Here's a picture of Waleska, Cristian, and Talar.

Here's Rana and Mary.

Abood, Jessica, Cristian, and Camilla.

Shahma, Faiza, Naila, Romana, Hattayo, and Thanyalak.

I am glad I went past my April 15th due date so I could finish up the week before April Vacation and have a clear leaving time that was not early labor during work or something, although I'm sure all my students were wishing that would happen to get some more excitement into our school days. That whole last week everyone said goodbye to me each time they saw me, which made it seem like my baby was taking forever, but she could have come at any time those last few days.
